BASIC programming is one way to make your computer do exactly what you want it to do. ThatÆs the joy of it. Learn to Program: BASIC teaches you how to program in BASIC, and gives you a wide assortment of tools and examples so that you can actually do it. You can write your own stuff for the computer. You can do what you want with your infernal machine.
Want to write a two player tank game, complete with graphics and sounds? You can do it. Want the computer to quiz you on state capitals? You can program that, too. Want to play concentration? Or hangman? Or an old-fashioned text based adventure? You can. If you donÆt believe it, look at the wonderful examples included on the CD ROM. A number of games are included - code complete and ready to play. The programmers of todayÆs hottest games learned to program the same way û and maybe someday youÆll be programming tomorrowÆs hottest games!
Computers have changed drastically since that day in chemistry class, but their fundamental wonder and intrigue hasnÆt. Unfortunately for 99% of the people out there, that wonder and intrigue is counter-balanced by a large dose of fear, caution, or lack of confidence. That is one of the unfortunate things about ignorance. However, the good news is that you donÆt have to be like that. You can be in the 1% bracket. Just install the CD and get programming.
About Learn to Program Basic
LTP: BASIC is a tool. Once you know how to use this tool, you will be using your computer in a way you may have never imagined: you will be creating and designing your own programs.
More specifically, LTP: BASIC is a BASIC interpreter. LTP: BASIC allows you to write and save your programming creations. The language that you will use to create your programs is called BASIC.
There are over 120 commands and functions at your disposal to write your BASIC programs. For a complete list of these commands and functions, you can either check out the glossary built in to LTP: BASIC, or refer to the workbook. Some of these commands and functions are classic in their nature. That is, they have been a part of the BASIC instruction set since people were programming BASIC on 1MHz computers with text only and no graphics display. Other commands and functions have been specifically created for this product. For example, many of the commands that allow the use of graphics and sounds have been specifically customized.
LTP: BASIC is also a teaching aid. There are ten progressive lessons in LTP: BASIC. Though you do not have to, we suggest that you go through each lesson in order. It is a great and entertaining way to familiarize yourself with some of the key BASIC principles and concepts.
In addition to ten lessons, there are ten projects. These projects are examples of completed code. You can run these projects and see them in action, print out the BASIC code, or modify the program to your liking. You will be pretty amazed at how far the BASIC language can go toward creating something fantastic. There are also over 50 complete programs and over 150 glossary definitions to learn from and refer to. The programs available are located in a folder on the LTP: BASIC CD ROM. Each glossary definition is also accompanied by a working program, also found on the CD ROM.
Quite a bit of information about sophisticated programming techniques is discussed in the workbook . This workbook is presented in textbook style, complete with definitions and exercises.
